We’re here to help young bankruptcy professionals.

DAYBL was founded in 2005 by local bankruptcy professionals who wanted to form a unique and close-knit group dedicated to the growth and enrichment of young bankruptcy professionals in the DFW area. Since then, DAYBL’s membership and reach has grown tremendously, fulfilling its founders’ visions and playing an important role in the future of the DFW bankruptcy bar.

DAYBL Committees

Membership

The Membership Committee is responsible for implementing a membership plan for the DAYBL, which includes a strategy for building and sustaining membership through the retention of existing members and recruitment of new members who will advance DAYBL's mission. The Membership Committee is also responsible for maintaining a current membership roster and implementing any membership initiatives as approved by the Board.

Sponsorship

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for developing DAYBL's fundraising strategy as well as organizing and implementing that strategy through activities and initiatives.

Mentoring

The Mentoring Committee is responsible for organizing and implementing various events and programs related to the educational, mentoring and charitable endeavors of DAYBL.

  • Duberstein Moot Court. DAYBL supports SMU Dedman School of Law’s participation in the national Hon. Conrad B. Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition in the form of financial and moral support. More specifically, DAYBL members act as judges during practice rounds, and, in conjunction with SMU, financially support the teams’ travel to New York City for the competition.

  • Law School Panels. DAYBL hosts annual panel discussions at local law schools to provide law students with an overview of bankruptcy practice. The goal of the program is to expose law students to bankruptcy law as a potential career path. Past panelists have included Northern District Bankruptcy Court Judges, restructuring professionals, creditor’s attorneys, debtor’s attorneys, and trustees. Each panelist discusses his or her role in the bankruptcy system and shares his or her unique perspective on bankruptcy law with the students.

  • Individual Mentoring. As part of its continued efforts to reach out to students interested in bankruptcy, DAYBL has created an informal program to pair law students with practicing bankruptcy attorneys. Interested students are encouraged to contact us to be paired with an attorney mentor who will be available to meet and discuss any questions they may have about bankruptcy in an informal setting.

Pro Bono

The Pro Bono Committee is responsible for organizing and implementing DAYBL's pro bono efforts and coordinating such efforts with other organizations, including the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program “DVAP”. Each year, DAYBL raises money to support DVAP through proceeds raised at its annual fundraising event.

Social

The Social Committee is responsible for organizing each of our networking events. DAYBL typically hosts at least one happy hour with the DFW bankruptcy community each month, along with other unique networking events.

Financial Professionals

DAYBL is committed to serving all restructuring professionals, not just attorneys. To that end, the Financial Professionals Committee is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of events and related actions related to financial professionals.
